March 28 marked the first of our three spring Rally Days to draw supporters of health freedom to the State House. Thirteen individuals came together to lobby legislators to support bills S665 and HD3538. Wearing badges reading “S665 Support Health Freedom”, the group fanned out across the State House to meet with the legislators representing their districts and key committee members currently reviewing the bills (Joint Committee for Health Care Finance and the Joint Committee for Public Health). In the final tally, they met with over 20 senators and representatives leaving behind a strong message of support for safe harbor legislation and securing Senator John Rogers as new co-sponsor for our legislation in the process! We’re looking forward to getting our message out to even more legislators as we plan our next Rally Day for April 11.
Massachusetts has formally introduced Senate Bill 665/House Bill 3660, a bill to protect access to complementary and alternative health care practitioners in Massachusetts. This is due to the direct efforts of the HFAMA Committee for Consumer Protection and Access to Complementary and Alternative Health Care.

Months
of hard work paid off today at the State House as we secured commitments from
both Senators and Representatives to file our bill. We garnered
bipartisan support in the Senate as Sen. Nick Collins (D) agreed to sponsor our
bill along with co-sponsors Sen. Michael Rodrigues (D) and Sen. Ryan Fattman
(R). We also mustered support from both sides of the aisle in the House
as Rep. John Lawn (D) pledged to file our bill supported by co-sponsors Rep.
Don Wong (R) and Rep. Sean Garballey (D). There is still much to do in
the days and weeks ahead to secure additional co-sponsors and to secure passage
of our bill. But the work has begun and the commitment is strong in the
Senate, the House and HFAMA.
As Clark Reddick walked the State House halls January 9 to
shore up support for our bill, he found in Qigong Master Rep. Donald Wong
someone who readily understands our interest in protecting access for
complementary and alternative health care. More exciting news to come as our
team hits the halls again tomorrow….
With
their inclusion of our message in their January newsletter sent out to 15,000
advertisers and subscribers, Spirit of Change magazine, New England’s
largest free holistic magazine, provided a major boost to Health Freedom Action
Massachusetts and our efforts to pass legislation to protect all complementary and alternative health care practitioners and
guarantee choice in their health care options.
In the run-up to the January 2019 filing date for our bill, the Committee for Protection and Access to Complementary and Alternative Health Care hit the State House to drum up support. Senator Denise Provost was all smiles as she met with her constituent Liesel Bender and Clark Reddick. Carol Bedrosian found strong support in Qigong master Rep. Donald Wong and Senator Ryan Fattman. Meanwhile Kim Valeri, Clark Reddick and Anne Fish couldn’t resist documenting their trip with a photo in the dome of the Massachusetts State House after meeting with representatives, senators, and legislative directors from the offices of Brad Hill, Patricia Jehlen, Jason Lewis, Joan Lovely, Michael Rodrigues, Bruce Tarr, and more. Stay tuned for more updates as we look for our bill sponsor and co-sponsors!
From June 10-12th, 2018, thirty leading health freedom organizations and fifty additional organizations and participants representing millions of health freedom-conscious Americans came together at the InterContinental Hotel-Riverfront in St. Paul, Minnesota for the 12th U.S. Freedom Congress. They collaborated, celebrated, and networked for future actions to create a more unified front for the health freedom movement. For a summary of this 12th Freedom Congress, please click through on the linked graphic below. We are grateful for the support of the National Health Freedom Coalition as we continue to craft, garner support for, and submit our latest version of the Massachusetts Consumer Access and Right to Practice Complementary and Alternative Health Care Act.
